This topic discusses bipolar disorder in adults. If you are concerned that your child or teen may have bipolar disorder, see the topic Bipolar Disorder in Childhood and Adolescence.
What is bipolar disorder?
Bipolar disorder is an illness that causes extreme mood changes that switch from manic episodes of very high energy to the extreme lows of depression. It is also called manic-depressive disorder.
This illness can cause behavior so extreme that you cannot function at work, in family or social situations, or in relationships with others. Some people with bipolar disorder become suicidal.
Having this disorder can make you feel helpless and hopeless. But you are not alone. Talking with others who suffer from it may help you learn that there is hope for a better life. And treatment can help you get back in control.
Family members often feel helpless when a loved one is depressed or manic. If your loved one has bipolar disorder, you may want to get counseling for yourself. Therapy can also help a child who has a bipolar parent.
What causes bipolar disorder?
The cause of bipolar disorder is not completely understood. We know that it runs in families. It may also be affected by your living environment or family situation. One possible cause is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain.
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms depend on your mood swings. In a manic episode, you may feel very happy, energetic, or on edge. You may feel like you need very little sleep. You may feel overly self-confident. Some people spend a lot of money or get involved in dangerous activities when they are manic.
After a manic episode, you may return to normal, or your mood may swing in the opposite direction to feelings of sadness, depression, and hopelessness. When you are depressed, you may have trouble thinking and making decisions. You may have memory problems. You may lose interest in things you once enjoyed. You may also have thoughts about killing yourself.
The mood swings of bipolar disorder can be mild or extreme. They may come on slowly over several days or weeks or suddenly over a few minutes or hours. The mood swings may last for a few hours or for several months.
you might be thinking about bi polar
bipolar sweety
could just be clinical or major depressione where you have highs and lows.. meds can stable you..
Bipolar's a little more complicated: one day you're suicidally depressed, the next manic, hyper, reckless.
life
It could be a few different things my guesses would be either depression or bi-polar. See a doctor to get a better idea. It could get a lot worse especially if it is depression.
Looking at your self LOL
I think it might be called manic depression or it might be called, life!
Well, if you're a teen, it's called being a teenager... another word is puberty. If it's a recurrent problem where you go from one extreme to another and you love the highs and the lows, then it's Bipolar.
bi polar or schizophrenic
could just be depression. bi polar is very extreme. being happy one day and sad the next doesnt mean you are bi polar. you have to be really really happy/ hyper then really depressed (on a dangerous level) to be bipolar
bi polar? depressed? are you kidding?
Bipolar.
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression. People suffering from it go through frequent "highs" and "lows" in their moods. If you suspect you or someone you know has bipolar disorder, it is important to visit a doctor.
ONE OF TWO THINGS BYPOLAR AND OR DEPRESSION
It's not necessary for this to be a disorder at all. Life throws all kinds of things our way. One day you may be enraged all day appropriately because things happen all day long to frustrate and enrage you. Next day maybe things go well and relaxed.
If these mood swings are unrelated to events happening to the person, then that can be bipolar disorder, but that does not cycle on a daily basis, more like several weeks at a time.
People with bi-polar disorder go from one exteme to the other and flip-flop back in forth with their moods. This might be something to consider. Here is a website with some info on it.

Well no one here could diagnose you so you need to see a professional to see if its bad enough to be considered Bipolar disorder or not. Usually bipolar people will feel great/estatic for a few days and then will get really depressed for a while. That is the disorder that you are describing. It is also sometimes called manic depression. It is very treatable too so if its affecting you have it treated so you can be happier. Take care!
It sounds like you are trying to describe bi-polar disorder, but it goes way beyond just happy/unhappy. Your description could just be a moody individual.
If the swings are wide, and the unhappiness is more like depression, that could be bipolar disorder. Mood disorders can be very mild or severely debilatating.
There are a wide variety of prescription medications that can help with bipolar disorder. If these mood swings are keeping you or someone you know from functioning, a psychiatrist would be the right professional to visit to get help.
Namaste.
Bi polar
I have the same problem and have been diagnosed with bi polar. I don't like to put a label on myself though. I take medication for this and it really has helped me a lot. I was unbearable to be around before medication. Your doctor can tell you your options as far as medications and it may take trying several different ones to find whats right for you. Let me suggest seeing a psychiatrist, not because you crazy, but because they specialize in mood disorders and can properly diagnose you and get you on the right meds.
bipolar is treatable, sometimes it takes a while. i have it, and i range from being numb and just getting through it, to being antsy and needing to keep busy. some days i cant get out of bed. my son has it worse and minute to minute can be like night and day. one minute he is a normal 13 year old, the next he is destructive and deadly. he breaks things ,hurts things, people and animals. other times he is crying and suicidal, he also jumps from roofs trees climbs the walls, causes fights, it varies greatly for him. it is like a switch that flips for no reason although it can be triggered also. we are both on meds and therapy, i hope i didn't scare you too bad. some people only go from having a really good day where you get every thing done quickly and well, to days where you struggle through fog and just cant focus on what is at hand. so chin up and get help, good luck/
sounds normal to me!
