Is this the mechanism of fun?

If you analyze the times when one laughs at some joke, you notice that the person laughs because that joke was not in his conventional thinking. It was fun because the joke was against the rules of analytical thinking.
With that said one can think that we feel better at funny moments because we "get out" of our "box of routinary happenings".
So the work of comedian is sort of like getting us out of the orthodox thinking?

Answer:
..You know, that's a very good way of putting it. Human beings laugh instinctively when they are made to realize that something isn't what they expected. The comedian overstates, or understates, in a believable way, with the effect of a surprise, one which seems true, OK or safe. It's a reaction that combines surprise and relief, so we laugh instead of cry.
To some extent i think you may be correct... by i dont believe that comedians necessairly that us out of orthodox thinking... i think it's that sometimes that say what's on our minds... that we normally wouldnt say and we find it funny that someone had the guts to say it.. or that they ridcule or go against social norms by saying things that are seen as bad like using sterotypes and so on..
