The way to avoid being a doormat like she was is to get your kids to do things on their own. Help them by all means, but teach them independance. Dont do everything for them.

well if shes waiting outside a pub my guess is she didn't want him drinking and driving possibly killing himself or someone else, however that's a bit much cut those apron strings by the time they are old enough to drink
