How to improve common sense?

im impressed by people who know what to do and why..like why you have to put something at the freezer, not at the ref...that kind of stuff...i suffer occasionally at lack of common sense, but sort of improved by doing house chores and work--where i get embarrassed sometimes (due to lack of common sense)!!..well i plan to be a nurse, job that requires a lot of common sense and application.. any suggestions on how to improve? thanks

Answer:
I'm sorry, but as my father taught me many years ago, there is no such thing as "common" sense. If there were then most everyone would have it, thus, the word common. Sense is gained from every day experiences and what you learn from them. People have learned what needs to be frozen and what doesn't. People have learned that putting your hand on a lit stove burns. That is not something we know instinctively. We teach our children that and that's how they come to know it, just as our parents taught us. If it was common sense then babies would not try to touch the flame and anyone with kids knows that I tell the truth. A child sees the flames and they want to reach out for them. All senses and knowledge must be learned and until we educate ourselves or others nothing will become "common" knowledge or sense. If you plan to be a nurse then you will go through the necessary educational process that will teach you everything you need to know. Apply the sense that you have learned from the experiences in your life along with that education and I am sure you will be a fine nurse. Good luck - and stop being embarrassed - not a one of us has ever tried something without making a mistake. Now, that is common.
there are to ways:
1. watch more tv
2. go out n observe the world around u
Good Luck Buddy!
if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!
be observant. that always helps! be aware of what your friends and parents say and do. people are always in need of common sense as you may observe and are always expressing it. hope i helped!
Your parents probably didn't teach you to think of the consequences, problem solve, think of your own solution, etc. growing up. If you know you're not good at it, then it takes a lot of practice and to be conscience of what you're doing all the time. You can't act dumb and pretend you didn't know. After a while that gets old. Start thinking through life and take responsibility. Good luck to you.
I seem to have a lack in common sense as well. My mom is writing a musical about life these days with songs like "Decadent Society" and "Instant Gratification Blues". I think another song will be about common sense because most people don't have it these days. Not much to do about it.
Do NOT watch television---well, don't watch the "news" channels !! They are dumbing down America and do not tell the truth.except ONE !! Countdown with Keith Olbermann--MSNBC- 8:00 p.m. weeknights.

Don't be embarrassed. I take it that you are very young.
Experience will give you lots of Knowledge as will reading. Read as much as possible.

Another way is talk to many older people.
They have lots of information that will help you in your everyday life. They are full of knowledge and have great stories too.

Relax and take it all in. Don't be afraid to ask lots and lots of questions. That is how you are going to learn the basics of everyday life.

Again, don't be embarrassed.
I am 50ish and I still ask lots of questions.
I also Google many topics that I want to learn more about.
Be curious and have a thirst for knowledge !!

And have fun and a sense of humor. When you don't know something at work ask and then use a little humor to lighten up the situation so you won't be so embarrassed.

Good Luck to You and Believe in Yourself !!
You will do great in the nursing program that you persue.
well the best bet is to ask a nurse, i bet you are going to school to be a nurse so i am sure you will learn just don't be nervious, everyone take time to learn new things, what you can do is have a study partner from your classes that will help.it has nothing to do with common sense, we live what we learn.
Copy other people.
Like, I don't know why ice cream goes in the freezer. I mean, I've never put it in the fridge, who knows, it might be better. But I know it goes in the freezer. Why? Cause.
