Preparing for the GRE?

I am getting ready to enter my senior year as a psych major. When should I be taking the GRE. I have heard this summer is the best, but have also heard that taking it in the fall is best. Also, what is the best way to prepare (ie. books, practice tests, classes)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This website has GRE samples. I suggest you to try and practice over a period of time (i tried many in one day and each gave me a stronger headache!)
I really believe you could only practice because there is no logical way to "study" for it.
I doubt the test itself is any easier in Summer or Fall. Pick the time when you can prepare for it without having to worry about much else. If you can afford the cost, taking a GRE preparation course may be of best benefit. Look at is as an investment in your future, one that can pay big dividends if it mean getting accepting into the graduate program you desire, and not just one that will accept you.

I winged it without studying (was taking too heavy of a course load and didn't have time to dedicate to studying for the GRE), and... well, my lack of preparation showed in the score. I still got into graduate school, but having better scores would have helped a lot.
