IQ/Independent Living?
I'm aware that the normal IQ is defined as 100 and that anything within one standard deviation of 100 (85-115) is considered an average IQ score.
I have seen some organizations that make group home living available to those who have IQ's between 60-85, however, which contradicts the notion of a 85 IQ as being a score within the normal range.
What score then do professionals within the mental health field believe is necessary in order to live in ones own apartment?
This is all a concern to me due to the fact that I obtained a very low 90 IQ score as an 8-year-old. I was told by a psychologist that this score was invalid, however, due to the fact that this test was a group administered test and that only tests administered by a

I think you have asked this before. It sounds like almost an obsessional thought.
There is no magic number for group homes. Here a lot of people in the Mental Retardation group homes have to meet the diagnostic criteria of Mental Retardation (IQ less than 70) AND show an impairment in their ability to function in their daily life (cooking, cleaning, hygiene, social interaction, etc). So, my guess is that if you are able to type a well-written question and understand concepts like standard deviation, you don't meet that criteria.
Remember that IQ is just a number. It should never dictate your life. I've met successful business men with IQs much like yours and last year, tested a receptionist with no advanced schooling with an IQ of 145. I also tested a kid whose mother abused him and deprived him of oxygen with an IQ of 155. IQ didn't define those people. It shouldn't define you.
The psychologist was correct. Your test was most likely invalid, especially considering that you are so very concerned about how your IQ affects your life. You were probably extremely anxious.
Maybe you should continue working with your psychologist to find out why this is so important to you. Because right now, it sounds like an ambiguous number is more powerful than your own free-will. Remember that you make the decisions to change and direct your own life, not a silly test, and not a silly number.
90 is not a low score. Since 100 is the average, 90 is probably just a few percent of the population lower. There's no exact figure, but I would say anyone with an IQ over 70-75 should be able to live by themselves.
