Is addiction a disease of perception?

I heard it described that way once and it's been rolling around in my head ever since. What are some of your thoughts/opinions on this?

Answer:
Of course, I'm no expert, but I think it depends on what the addiction is to. If it's an addiction to alcohol or another addictive drug, then I don't think it's merely perception anymore. At this point, it's a chemical addiction where the body actually needs the substance. But with addictions to things like eating, porn, drugs that aren't chemically addictive (some say like marijuana) it is only a perceived addiction. Someone loves something very much and can't stop thinking about it and using it. In this case, then yes, I think addiction is a disease of perception.
That's really interesting though, I never thought about it much before like that.
Whether it's a chemical dependancy or an emotional one, your perception is that you need it to make you feel good.
With all respect.. does it matter? it will have reasons.. those will have to be looked into, to perhaps make things better. (if possible)
a disease is alive, is an addiction alive-have a life of its own after you are dead.
