Can all humans be capable of doing immoral things?
My question for you is, can people be convinced into doing something horrible to someone else, even if they would never image doing it and know that its wrong? Two examples for you: one, remember the Stanford experiments? the doctor that was experimenting with what just every day, normal people would be pushed to do. Well, he had 10 people in a room and he had they connected to a machine that would shock them. Then, he told the people that he just randomly selected that they were going to be asking those 10 people questions and every time they got one wrong, they would push a button that would shock them, and the voltage would increase with every question wrong. Well, eventually the voltage got to a point where it could kill them and they were being tortured. The people were begging for them to stop, screaming in pain and agony. The people wanted to stop and couldnt take it any more but the professor told them to keep going and said that it was ok and to keep going. Well, those people
Answer:
I always thought that I could rise above the evil that occurred in the last world war, if I were placed in the position of making the choice.
Then I saw Schindler's List. It left me with a mirror image that was not just of humanity, but of my own darkest fears.
I no longer have the firm belief.
Yes. They asked us this one in Psycology 1. Yes people can and do this type of thing. human nature is certainly capable of it. for encouragement, listen to ttb.org.
Yes they can.
Yes, we're all human, and totally capable of sin. I'd like to think that there is a degree of immorality or cruelty beyond which many of us would not go, but, even though I've never done anything near to what your examples include, I have done things to people, hurting them mentally and emotionally, that I would never have imagined possible out of me, so, we're all capable of such immorality and cruelty. I just hope we're not all put to that temptation. Although Jesus did clearly say that if you so much as think of doing something, you've as much as done it, in His eyes. So, that puts things in a totally different perspective. God Bless you.
The Stanley Milgram experiments you refer to, are proof that almost all people are capable of doing horrific things under certain circumstances. Abraham Lincoln spoke of the better angels of our nature, when referring to people's behavior, during the Civil War. We must constantly question authority, and not accept it blindly. It is not only a practical, but moral duty to THINK!!
yes. Maybe there is a born saint every now and then, but I don't see how they could be foreseen or, even better, engineered. The rest of us have at least some potential for evil. It's always seemed to me to be one of life's tasks to subdue the rotten impulses in ourselves, try to influence others in the same way and try to nurture the (also universal) impulses toward goodness. Maybe that's three tasks, but it's all the same.
Sure, everyone is capable of doing horrible things. Not all people can necessarily be coerced to do so, though. A sampling of 10 people doing so, or even numbers as large as the Nazi forces doing so is not definitive proof that ALL humans can be coerced to this point. A majority, maybe, but not all.
yes,i believe everyone is capable no matter what they say. it gets down to choice. we call ourselves human, but we are rarely humane. look at how we treat animals. before your next trip to mcdonald's take a trip to a slaughter house and see how moral we are.
i tried to think of a righteous answer, wrote a mini novel then erased it, wrote another one .. Backspace^infinity.. this is my final answer.
