Are dream interpretations accurate?
can they really tell about yourself...maybe predict your future, etc.?
Answer:
No. Only the dreamer can interpret their dream. It's possible to "lead" the dreamer by getting them closer in touch with their dream, asking questions about their emotions (or lack of them), the symbols & metaphors that are unique only to THEM. I've seen many websites & references to books that give "generalizations" as well as the most symplistic interpretation of someone's dream. YOU are the dream, & everything & everyone in it is a symbol only to you, you are the deamer This doesn't mean someone can't help you to make your own journey, but NEVER assume to know the meaning of someone's dream. They cannot predict your future. They are not the dream, or the dreamer. Something like, horoscopes that are based only on you sun sign. There is so much more to it than that.
Well, personally, I don't think they are. Dreams are nothing but figments of your imagination, or maybe recaps of your day in a different order, way, etc.
That's my opinion, I hope I helped in some way!
i believe that they are somewhat accurate, i used to have a program on my computer and it was a dream journal and then it would tell what youre dream meant but it only picked up words here and there and said what the meaning was of that word. dream interpretations to me seem like horoscopes.
Well there are several different views on the take of psychological outlooks. The one that involves dreams in psychoanalysis. If you asked Sigmeund Freud (the founder of psychoanalysis) he would say yes, they are very important as they are an entry into the subconcious. If you view the world like a psychanalyst and believe that ideas are in in your subconcious and repressed then they are important. However, in this case it isn't so much what happens in the dream thats important but rather the symbols involved in it.
The theory on dreams is that they are your brain's way of integrating your experiences into long-term memory while you sleep. So, they draw a lot on your experiences, memory, and daily life. They are very personal. The dream books and internet sites are probably of little use to you. Suppose you dreamt of a cow. The cow could mean one thing to you and something completely different to someone else. For example, one dream interpretation site says that dreaming of a cow "signifies your obedience to authority without question." However, what if you grew up on a farm and you had a pet cow? That cow would mean something more than "obedience to authority." I don't even know how someone got obedience from a cow. There's no science to that.
I'm not saying that dreams aren't symbolic. They totally are, however, the symbolic meaning really varies from person to person. If you are wondering about a weird dream, ask yourself, "What is going on in my life that sort of relates to that dream?"
Let's go back to the dream about the cow. Let's say you had the dream about the cow and you ask, "What's going on in my life that sort of relates to that cow?" Maybe another pet of yours died. Or maybe your pet cat had kittens. Maybe you were really disgusted by ground beef yesterday. Maybe someone hit you with a cattle prod (that's the only way I could see the obedience interpretation). These are all things that will trigger your long-term memory of that cow.
I know that a lot of people are going to hate this response, but dreams can be interpreted, but you need to interpret them and try to base your interpretations on your life and your experiences, not a book, website, or what other people tell you.
