Why Can't Controlling, Overbearing People...See That They Are Controlling And Overbearing?

Even if their behavior is extremely obvious by anyone's standards.

Answer:
I think to some degree they actually believe they are doing a good deed by being controlling. Its there way of showing they care. and they see no harm in it. But its defintely not a good thing. Control freaks believe they know whats best for themselves and for you. and although it may hurt you to be under the control of such a person its them I feel extra sorry for because sooner of later (usually later) they'll realize the type of person they are and by that time no one wants to be around them
They only feel "safe" if they hold the reins of power or are in control. They don't see themselves as overbearing. If they don't take control, things would really get messed up in their opinion.
Can you do as you are told?
They probably don't see anything wrong with their behavior, therefore they wouldn't feel it was necessary to admit to any faults.
They enjoy the way that they are. Getting their way and the sort of stuff that comes along with that attitude. Most are bullies that cower and disappear if confronted running back to the places where they are most in control and safely comfortable.
They have no mirrors to look at.

Obviously, you do not include their own standards.

They think it is you and not them. They transfer whatever judgments you make about them back at you. It is a defensive mechanism built in their character.

They are always right and you are always jealous or wrong and they will tell you which.
Perhaps they do, & that's why they enjoy it--just rattling peoples cages. Perhaps they don't, even though it's obvious to everyone else. Needn't get into psychological reasons. l keep a great distance from that sort of person. & yes, you CAN, even if they're family. You can keep "distance" when in the same room. Refuse to get into dialogue, deflect, ignore. One thing they do seem to learn, is to run out of steam with someone who simply, calmly, refuses to play their game.
They are too full of themselves to see anyone else.
