Anyone have a fear of public bathrooms?

I'm not talking about fear of germs or any hygienic issue but I have a true phobia of public bathrooms. I will actually start getting an anxiety attack. And the sound of the toilet flushing really loud while in the stall seems to make it worse. I thought it was claustrophobia but the feeling doesn't subside until I am completely out of the restroom, not just out of the stall. The fear is being attacked by someone and when the toilet flushes loud, I fear that it will mask the sound of an intruder. I know this might sound strange but I experienced it very bad tonight. Anyone heard of this or experienced it themself?

Answer:
you know what. i thought i was scared of small places, but i have that fear myself.

All my life ive been scared of loud noises in the night blocking the sound of an intruder or something.

And in public restrooms, i guess i fear them because they arent in the comfort of my own home. where at home i feel safer.

But I get so much more scared too, when i HEAR the toilet FLUSH. i think i got that Trauma, from when i was little and someone played a trick on me after i watched a scary movie that involves stuff popping out of the toilet and coming at you.

After that i always have to stare into the bowl while flushing making sure i rapidly try and get the door open, and get out ASAP after washing my hands ofcourse but very cautiously.

Ur not the only one im sure theirs more people out their besides you and me.

But have u ever wondered why u have that phobia? it could be something thats traumatized you in the past... ya know.
My little cousin experiences something similar. When she was 3, I attempted to take her into a public bathroom at a laundromat, and she began to scream and kick, and hyperventilate, until I removed her from the bathroom. Very sad.
i get that in particular at theatre bathrooms. everything is touchless. i feel like a robot.

at a chicago airport i was at, they had this rotating liner on the toilet seats. that really creeped me out.
Yes. Although I have not experienced it to such an extreme degree in my adult life, I used to have a terrible fear of public restrooms when I was younger. I would sometimes just wait until I got home to use the restroom - if I could wait that is. I dont think that this fear is as rare as we might think. I mean who really feels comfortable using the restroom in a strange, public place. Not too long ago, in the city in which I live, a young boy was murdered in a public restroom at the local mall. He went in to use the men's room and his mother waited outside the door for him. After several minutes passed and he did not come out she sent the security guard in to check on him and he was found murdered in one of the stalls. Public restrooms are creepy places I would have to agree with you.
