AGAIN-Gender Identity Disorder?

Thank you to the few of you who answered my question, however, I think many people are confusing this with sexual preferance. IT IS NOT THE SAME THING. Please-more opinions greatly appreciated. What do you think of people who go through a gender identity crisis? Do believe it is real? Do you think it is a result of nurture or nature? Please-feel free to speak up!

Answer:
What exactly is your problem, did your mother dress you up like a little boy and your not, visa versa. Do you like to look like a man and you are a woman, or visa versa, am I way off base? I would like to help but you are leaving out key details that might get you some better answers!
I know years ago I went through something! I felt so unfeminine, I was under alot of stress and working too hard.so in my case is was lack of nurture
Think like a man?
Walk like a man?
Prefer men's clothing?
Have manly features?

I'm sure the above things are real--even when a female does prefer a male as a boyfriend/husband.

I would have to say that both nature and nurture play a role in this disorder. The genes, and the people you were around as a child probably both have a lot to do with it.
Gender Identity Disorder is very real. There has been some evidence that it results occasionally due to an imbalance of hormones present during a key stage of fetal development. This causes the implantation of reversed gender. This has been backed up by studies at least for male to female where the individual had gender reassignment surgery at infancy due to either a birth defect or a botched circumcision. Even though raised fully as female the gender assignment was still male.

This is not to say that the influence of nurture on a developing individual is to be discounted.

I have known a couple of individuals who have undergone gender reassignment surgery, one male to female and the other female to male. It is not a matter of sexual preference, it is much more stigmatized to be trans gendered than homosexual. Being male or female is more than what parts you hide in your underwear.
In my opinion, people experiencing Gender Identity Disorder deserve compassion as undergoing sex-changes and other activities such as cross-dressing prior to gender-reassignment are still quite taboo.

This is a real disorder; unfortunately, the cause is still unknown. While in most cases it is difficult to make a clear distinction between nature and nurture, it seems clear that nature is doing most (if not all) of the work here.

The suggestion above regarding hormone production of the mother during pregnancy has also been proposed as a cause of homosexuality. There have also been studies showing that the brain activity of those with Gender Identity Disorder closely matches the activity of the gender to which they identify. Incidentally, gay and lesbian brains also operate (to some degree) in a manner with qualities of the opposite sex, further blurring the line between male a female.
You should watch Boys Don't Cry it deals with this same issue and it might give u a little more insight for ur Thesis. It's also based on a true story somethings changed around of course since hollywood has to make everything more dramatic to sell but this way maybe u can research the true story too.. anyways u should watch it if u already haven't it's a good movie.
