Why when a person gets rich and have success the right way there's always a penalty for it?

I watched this episode on Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air about Will and his cousin Carlton being in this franternity group. When the franternity leader saw carlton as a "soft" person because of the life he lives as a rich person that has not experianced the struggle-to-success the rest of the group members had including Will despite the fact that Carlton is a Top-A student and a hard worker when it comes to school work. In the mid-end of the episode where the group has a party the group leader tells Will that he is accepted in the top fraternity group, but Carlton is not accepted depspite all the hard work that had been put on him a lot more than the other group members. Will, instead of entering the group he leaves along with Carlton and when they get home and tells uncle Phil about what had happened and Phil say's "I've worked hard to give my family a better life and somebody say's there's a penalty for success".

Answer:
It depends on one's attitude toward success and other people's responses to it.

We must be aware that personal success may alienate long time friends and associates. That is to be expected. We must realize that true friends will revel in our success, rather than be jealous of it.

In order to preserve our sanity, we must look inward to find the gratification and contentment that accompanies successes in life. We need not depend on the verbal accolades of others to revel in our success.

Sometimes, we must stand alone and look inward, rather than aspire to the empty accolades of others.
I've seen that episode. Fresh Prince is one of my fave tv shows of all time. That, and In Living Color. I remember that episode... will leaves the frat house, saying, "Let's make like a tree, and leaf." to which, Carlton, meeting him outside, says, "That's, 'make like a banana and SPLIT."
