Is it true that when you IMAGINE yourself training for wrestling or other things you'll actually be better at

it? like you've been training in real life?

Answer:
..Not exactly like real life, but amazingly there IS a real training effect. The more vivid your imagination, the better the training effect will be. Here's why...

You see, learning a skill involves countless repetitions of the skill. These activities stimulate the brain to grow dendrites from neurons related to the skill to other related neurons. After countless repetitions, all the required neurons are connected into a pathway that enable performing the skill. At that point you can execute the skill automatically without thinking...you will have mastered it.

The thing is, the required stimulation will happen whether you do the skill for real, or if you imagine it over and over in your mind. Naturally, the development will be much better if you do it for real, because it will involve interacting with others and real situations, which is the ultimate goal. And it helps to have coaching. But yes, it really does help if you train using your imagination.
abolutely. tried and tested for anything you want to learn. every time you think through the process of doing something you create a neural pathway, the more you think through it, the clearer the pathway becomes and the easier you will find it to do it next time and the time after. You can train yourself to have a reaction for every wrestling move anyone could ever pull on you in any combination by thinking it through, then when it actually happens your brain will take the well worn path to the right reaction and you will whip your opponants behind!
Neurons, dentrites, synapses, bah. Your brain tells your body what to do. If your brain can't tell your body the correct things to do when faced with a given task, then your body has no chance of actually being able to do that thing. Kind of like a coach/player relationship. If the coach doesn't know how to play the sport, then the player is screwed. Now even if the coach has never coached for that particular sport before, coach stands a much better chance of doing a good job for the first game if he reads up on the sport and practices his coaching in front of a mirror before the actual game. You accomplish the same task through your imagination.
Yes, actually it sound like you are referring to Creative Imagery/Visualization. Kind of like what the book the secret discusses. Positive thinking supposedly encourages certain things to take place, and by thinking positively, we can open a number of countless possibilities upon ourselves by law of attraction. And it works. I use it in small ways and it seems to prove effective. My Tae Kwon Do Sensei always says a positive attitude always leads to success!
