How do you get "unstuck" from a particular unresolved developmental stage?
I have studied and read many different theories on developmental psychology from psychoanalytic perspectives to humanistic-transpersonal. My favorite approach is existential and I have recently read an abstract discussing the existential crisis at each developmental stage (combinig the stages of Erickson, Freud and some Buddhist Psychology stages- chakras, etc), but in all of my reading I have yet to come across anything that discusses how to resolve a stage where development was arrested or development was negative, resulting in issues in one's current developmental stage. How do you get "unstuck"? I am sure there is literature out there on it, but I have yet to find it. Anyone know where I can find some work on this or have advice on how to resolve these stages?

This website is an excellent answer to your question. Getting "unstuck" in all cases requires that the person be aware of their dilemma and are willing to move on. Some cases require help/therapy. That is why Psychiatry and Psychology are such busy disciplines.
When you have something unresolved your mind doesn't rest until the resolution, hence all the conflict. People feel the conflict in different ways and supress it or escape from it. However, if you are willing and committed, then the unresolved issues will keep coming around the radar screen and you can look at the past from the present. Sometimes just realizing what went wrong from a new mature perspective will resolve the issue. Sometimes you need to take an action. But in any situation, if you resist running and stay in the moment, and it may take many tries, then the unresolved issues fade away as you and they take on a new meaning in the present.
Example: I had a fear of something that I should have outgrown. In the past I reacted cowardly, so the issue was unresolved and I was stuck in the past with this particular thing. It haunted me until I stood face to face with it and each time it returned I sought within myself the right way to re-experience it. One day it lost all its power and was gone.
