Is it wrong to want to be the best?

I want to be the best and if I can't be then I don't really see the point in trying? Is this destructive thinking?

Answer:
"Is it wrong to want to be the best?"
Entirely totally absolutely not.Shows motivation , aim and ambition in abundance.
Trying to be the absolute top notch will sure as hell take you places in life.

"I want to be the best and ((if I can't be then I don't really see the point in trying))".
The latter part is where youre off the track.
As honest as it comes : you are NOT going to be the absolute best at everything damned thing you try.So that means you'll just give up the things you can't achieve?...and over what logic ? "because im not the best at them"?.

"Is this destructive thinking?".
I'ts more detrimental then destructive in the longer run of life.It will get in your way of getting things done.On a more severe impact it could halter your productive life.

Try to be a more successful person then a perfect person.Learn to be flexible (that doesnt mean you compromise your perfection oriented values)...just that you'd much rather get something done at least then not do it at all altogether.

Don't give into the flame of perfection.Use it's heat to fire your goals..and it's light to go where no one else does.

Peace.
Yes, it is not only destructive thinking but also perfectionist thinking. And this STOPS many people from achieving, for the very reason you verbalized: If I can't "be" the "best". I just won't do it.

While I do believe that dreaming big is the method to many successes, I also believe that being truly passionate about something, whether you are particularly good at it or not, is more important, and can actually lead to great achievement as well.
Why do you feel that you have to compare yourself to others? True confidence in yourself does not require such comparisons and we can be happy knowing that everyone has value as themselves.
No, as long as it doesn't become obsessive where it consumes your time and thoughts.
If you're going to do something, then yeah...do it right, the best you can.
You can never be "the best" because each person has his own gifts and talents and one could do what you can't do and vice versa.
Be the best at what YOU are.
It's ok to want to be the best, but it takes practice and work. I don't know anyone that was the best at anything the first time they tried. The important thing is to try your best.
no all you can be is your best. Right?
That is usually the type of thinking that is found with people whose parents were abusive alcoholics. As children they were usually criticized for not being perfect.
Yes it is. Why?because if you consider it no one is the best, there is always someone better, someone bigger. You don't see the point of trying? I don't see the point of CONTINUING after reaching perfection. What happens then? Your life ends? What a drag. I think it would be much more entertaining to go through the life experiences you would have to endure in order to get there. It's like those women who are wonderful before you marry them, then they go all to hell, gain 200lbs, and lose all their teeth, and make whining their native tongue.
If you have nothing to work towards, nothing to live FOR, I find that highly unacceptable and far more destructive.
Keep growing as long as you're alive.
And stay gold.
An important thing in trying to be the best is that you are trying to become "your" best.

The point to trying is that you improve yourself. There are too many factors to worry about being disappointed.

Here is the inside scoop. People put the wrong value in competition. But the deal is, if someone seem better, there is no reason to be upset. How do you know how long they have practiced? How do you know what kind of support of help they have? Maybe this is their one good area they have natural inclinations for.

The point is that you make yourself better. And if you try really hard and became the best, would you tell the person you were better than to be upset? I bet you would probably coach them and give them advice on what helped you.

Everyone has different levels of experience, practice, and natural ability in certain areas. If you look at it that way, you will feel a sense of achievment in bettering yourself regardless of how you do in any particular area.

You are going to better yourself and enjoy bettering yourself.

Try at life. This is not a dress rehearsal. This is the real thing. Every effort counts.
No, you just have to realize everyone has there own interpretation of what the BEST actually is. Not everyone thinks the same so it is different in everyone's eyes..I hope you understand that and I am not trying to cut anyone down i am just being honest as I can be!
Having a HEALTHY competitive attitude isn't a bad thing. However if you find yourself being consumed by wanting to win, it can become a problem. You shouldn't obsess too much about being the best. When you obsess about being the best at everything you do, it's far too stressful. It causes too much anxiety on you psyche. Anxiety usually follows, because no matter what you do, or how well you do it, you're never satisfied. The answer here is to balance your need to win with a healthy dose of reality.
Yes! Don't give up easily. Life is not perfect, and that is why each and everyone of us here wanna try to be the best. It is impossible that you can't be the best. To be the best, patience and time are required. It can't be done within a few minutes/days, sometimes even months/years! There's a saying: NOTHIN' IS IMPOSSIBLE. Good luck in trying to be the BEST!
