4. What was the nature of the use of nuclear weapons in World War II?

Answer:
Truman had other options but he chose not to use them. One option was to explode a nuclear bomb over an uninhabited island in the Pacific as a show of force and threat to Japan. But it was feared that if the display failed, all hope would be lost. He just was not willing to send another 100,000 US men to their death so he went for the bombs until they surrendered.
To exhibit extreme force and show the power of a nation. Desperate last ditch effort to come out a winner. Two main reasons for the devastation that fell on thousands of innocent kids.
It was a last resort effort by Truman to end the war in the Pacific and bring Japan to her knees; because we were losing too many men and our resources were thin.

I have often thought about this and as horrible as the decision had to be; there really was not any other way. The Japanese war machine would not give up.
