Philosphical question?
How is psycology any more practical than an understanding of the humours?
.
Answer:
well, i don't know what you mean by "understanding of the humours" so i won't touch that one. but no, i don't think psychology has ruined the world. if anything, i think it has bettered it. i would rather know what really motivates and drives people rather than blame some outside source (like god or the devil). if i were to point to a bane of humanity, i would say it was religion. not the nature-based religion that humans have followed for 99.9% of our time here on earth, but rather more structured and organized western religions which point to some thinking, watching and judging outside entity and take value away from what really matters in the world. to get back to the point before i go off completely, i think psychology, esp in the last fifty years, have helped strengthen our understanding of how we live and what the purpose of that life might be. it has also given us the tools by which to understand and help people who cannot help themselves, so that they may lead richer and more full lives. what's so bad about that?
