What are some benefits of conformity and what are some benefits of nonconformity?
Answer:
conformity allows us to feel a part of group, it provides cohesiveness and and a sense of security by following norms. It also keeps people from engaging in anti social acts for fear of isolation from the group. Benefits of non conformity is that blinding following society's dictates is not always the smartest option, e.g. Milgram experiment.
I believe conformity is of benefit where laws are concerned if you agree with the law but nonconformity is of benefit where belief systems are used and also where stereotypes are broken down.
It's easy to control people who conform. That's good, unless the person controlling them is insane, like Hitler or something. It just depends on what situation we are talking about.
Conformity leads to a greater chance of acceptance...
Nonconformity means going on your own path...
Conformity is a great thing. You get to walk around with people patting you on the back all the time. Telling you what a stand up person you are, stuff like that. Part of the IN crowd. Stealing money from a lot of people because you've learned to except that if you don't squish the little guy & get what you can, you can't buy that new Lexus next year. Nonconformity, gives you the opportunity to live your life as an individual, in freedom as long as you obey the laws. You don't have to deal with all the social ajeda's of a lot of people that just talk behind your back. You also get to sleep at night because you know you did an honest days work, and God is watching over you.
Conformity gives us the security of knowing what to expect. Non-conformity delivers us from the resultant boredom.
