Is it possible to be too empathetic?
I think I am, and its killing me

It's possible to be too extreme in anything. Being empathetic's an awesome thing, but I think somewhere along the line we sort of have to harden our hearts to survive. I know a girl who gets so upset when she sees other people get bullied she cries--it's not a good thing. You have to think of yourself too.
On the other hand, if you can keep that empathetic feeling while still doing what's best for you, you can probably do so. Many times I can't concentrate on my work because I'm too busy being upset over poverty. Silly, I know. I'm guess I'll try to keep the empathy for the poor, but I have to ignore it for now so I can get my work done. :(
Yes, and if it's hurting you so much, you should seek counseling...really.
you shouldent be at all, try quit, it is a bad habit like smoking as it causes depression. empothy should only be used on crtian occasions, like if you are bullying someone. use empothy and it may make u stop.
also, charity companies like Oxfam try to get youu to donate money by using empothy to get you to feel sorry for the people in africa, or poor countries. if this gets to you many will use this against you.
Change now. I am too. It has only done me wrong. I think I can help people who are bad no matter what. Even trash. I am sorry to use that word, but some people are trash. You cannot be on their level. You are better and really have no idea. Do you and don't waste your time. They will do what they can to make you miserable when they realize you finally see them for what they are. TRASH. You will be left behind and they will cling to their bible and their Glad ways. People don't change. You just get smarter. Leave the TRASH behind. One day they will stop stalking you and leave you alone.
