What is that feeling you get in your heart when you are depressed, sad, or on the verge of crying?

We all know that feeling of having your heart broken. It's like a pressure on your heart, physical and emotional, that when we get when we hear that someone we love has passed, or that you might never see a friend again, etc.
Is it really the heart that is hurting, or just the chest? And why is this caused. Is it just phsychological?
I need more of a *proffesional* answer. Thx

Answer:
I think your heartbeats increase when you are under some kind of stress such as finding out someone has died. So your heart feels "wierd" when it starts beating fast and reacting in such a manner. We interpret it as being a heart breaking, or hurting but it is really just increased reaction to stimuli.
i don't know, but it's time to go SHOPPING!
