This is a learned strength, as swimming or tennis or learning to listen or concentrate. Goals or motivation helps. What will I gain or achieve by overpowering this urge? Am I going to allow myself to be dictated to? Celebrate your successes and congratulate yourself, too. Remind yourself that now you know you have the strength and assure yourself that you can do it again. Don't let set-backs discourage you. The Wright brothers didn't let it stop them. They had a goal. And eventually they achieved it! So will you, my friend.
David, this is a trait of a very young person. How old are you?
David, 16 year old is too young and I can see exactly where you are coming from. If you were 40, I would tell you that you need to "grow" up and mature.
For young people is very hard to see the future and we always want immediate gratification (kids are not alone in this).
In regards to not being honest I find it "normal" with kids because they want/need more freedom and want to experiment with things that parents don't agree with and so they end up lying to cover up things.
The fact that you are aware of and not happy with this side of yourself is very, very mature and I congratulate you for it! I have 2 daughter (15 & 25 years old), and believe me that I would be pround if my kid posted a question like yours. Try to develope better comunication with you parents because this will promote more understanding and less "need" for lying.
Oh by the way, we all do stuff just for the moment just try to have some balance between work and play: work hard/play hard.

There are no way to gain willpower. It is natural. Every human being has the willpower since he or she born to this world. It is naturally born in the heart of every individu.. You can't gain willpower but you can wakeup the willpower from your heart through your positive thinking, feeling and acting..
