Does music have a major effect on your mood?

It may be a normal thing for others, but I find it that when I listen to a good song that it can change or improve my mood drastically. Like I had just downloaded the Greatest Hits of the Beach Boys and their music is very uplifting. I walk to school listening to it on my iPod and I feel like I could lift a building up if I wanted to because I feel so happy.

So is that a normal feeling for others?

Answer:
Yes it is. It has been proved that the acoustic expressions of the tunes or the lyrics can have profound influences over a person's frame of mind.
Thats why many people like to listen to classical music, as the soft music soothes their minds. In contrast, many teens (Myself included) prefer listening to rock or pop as they feel more of a connection between the hard strains and the general chaos in their lives.
Music is also being researched as a form of therapeutic treatment, especially for psychology.
I'm sure you know that many surgeons also have a preference for music while they operate as it promotes a soothing and calm feeling.
Yes, it can. Happens with me too. ^_^
Don't get too happy people may think otherwise.
yes i belive it does when iam stressed out i listen to 70's 80's music.
yes, depending upon the music i listen to also affects my mood. beach boys=good music man!
Very much so, Yes! Music is an art and it's at the top for some of us. Even the Blues can make me feel good and the "wrong" music can ruin my mood. Your very Soul loves music. Enjoy and Thrive On It!! @8-)
For me it's often the other way around. My mood affects my music. Depending on the mood I'm in I might listen to country, metal, or even classical. But yes, if I'm in a lousy mood, pissed off at the world, a good song can brighten my day.
Yes, definitely. Listening to upbeat music can help my mood when I'm pissed off or just to keep my spirits up. Slower quiet songs can help me fall asleep. Angry, loud music helps me calm down when I'm angry. And I love having music playing in the background when I'm doing stuff, it gives me something to think about, keeps things less boring, more interesting.
Yes, scientists have done major studies on music & its affects on the brain.
Music affects your mood greatly...it can make you happy, sad, inspired, uplifted, whatever.
Playing music & to a lesser degree listening to music, actually makes you smarter, because it uses so many parts of the brain. I did a research paper on this a few years ago so I don't remember my sources, but there is plenty of info out on this subject if you're interested.
So if you really want to improve your mood (and your brain power) pick up an instrument. Why not learn to play some Beach Boys songs?
Yes, music is one of our major mood changers. For example, when you go into a mall or other public building where music is played, relaxing music is playing. When you look at much of today's heavy metal, grunge, punk, rap, hip hop a lot of it is negative and when you talk to people that listen to that kind of music (?) they are negative. if you listen to romantic music, you feel romantic...

good observation you had there...
It's normal for me also.
Absolutely .. music is a major part of me. If I have a lot of house-work to do, with no access to music while I'm doing it .. stay clear, I'm really grouchy. If I have some tunes to listen to ... and you walk by, I'll probably grab ya for a quick dance!! lol .. yeah, I love music!!

Music ... chicken soup for the soul. :)
