What should real love be based on? How to love authentically?

I read an article about "romantic love" being nothing more than a cultural delusion. So I ask what shoud "real love" be based on? Does it come with time?

Answer:
friendship, its there or its not ive been married for 27 years to the same person because we were best friends to start off with, it just got better and better over the years. no regrets here
Yes real love is unconditional and yes, comes with time.
Friendship. That's what it really comes down to, sur you can say trust, loyalty, honesty, blah blah wahtever, but really, a proper relationshsip is based on friendship.
If you ever get this figured out, you will be a very rich person. Right now there are a lot of people out there selling love, and making billions.
I believe real love is the unconditional acceptance of who a person is. faults and all.
To truly love who a person is is to accept them as they are without demanding them to conform to an idea of love.
So many people put conditions on their love for others.
Authentic love gives of itself without expecting anything in return and is willing to love regardless.

My Granny had a little sign hung up in her house it said..
"God can see me, but he loves me anyway."
From all of the books that I have read and the people that I have talked to, this is one subject that has been studied since the beginning of time. I guess this is why love is called a great mystery.
