Why do some people get turned on by being humiliated?

Like with any other negative thought, emotions, sensation, or belief, people get addicted to them and like any addiction when it is fed it feels better or even pleasurable.
When railed and spit upon, hated by all...I feel like I must be doing Something right.

i'm not exactly sure. i know that it seems like abusive marital relationships are based on a partners need to be "humiliated." perhaps humiliated isn't quite the word though, maybe degraded, or possibly dominated, would fit better? it seems like (hate to say it, but it's too often true) it's the woman that feels a need to be degraded, or dominated. i'm not sure if it's a subconscious reflection of her own parent's relationship, or if it's something else.
i've experienced what you're talking about first-hand, not on a very large scale, but nonetheless it's similar, if not the same thing. a friend of mine, this was when i was very young, constantly put me down & manipulated me, albeit, it was over petty things, but it was happening. instead of wanting to avoid this "friend," i found myself wanting to spend more time with her, & most importantly, wanting to please her. i have no idea why i felt this, but i think that the need to please has something do with the type of person that gets turned on by humiliation.
