Is there such thing as middle child syndrome?

I am the middle child of three sisters and im just wondering if there is such thing as middle child syndrome?

Answer:
More than likely, yes. I am also middle child of three. All the different places in birth order have typical qualities.
Like the oldest are the most responsible and more likely to be a leader.
The middle children crave attention, since we have gotten the least of it since childhood.
The youngest are the most spoiled.
The craving for attention that most middle children have are a major part of whatever that syndrome may be.
I believe there is, in my psych class they talked about it, I'm also a middle child, we should start a support group.
Judith Rich Harris says no, but Sulloway says yes. And the rest of psychology lines up on one side, or the other. I am sure glad I am a Canid ethologist, because you psychological types make me tired.
The theory goes:
the oldest is the most responsible and domineering. The youngest is the most secure and carefree. and the middle is always reacting to the older or the younger, and can get lost in the process.
For it to be considered to be a syndrome there would have to be some symptoms. make a list of the symptoms that you think you get from being the middle child, ask your sisters to make a similar list for being the first and the last child and then compare notes. I think that you will find that you are all alike and therefore, there is no such thing as middle child syndrome. Just look at it like you're in a sandwich, your sisters have to be bread, but you could be anything you want!
I sure think there is. I read a book a few years ago on birth order and it was so accurate it was eerie. I wish I remembered the name of it. You should look online or at your local library and see if you can find some info.
O course, everyone talks about it. I was, am the baby of the family, but my sis was, is the middle child. Not easy; alot of the household responsibility is automactically put off on the middle child; not to mention the guilt, the resurection of the late night movie to perhaps explain the antics of the day before. Anything to keep the peace in the family. To know more; read my hope to be published soon collumm. BON BON
There most certainly is! I am the middle child of three boys. This is fully documented in a lot of psych books. The first child is the first, then the second child then the third which is the baby. Somehow the middle child gets passed up. This is prevalent when there are three boys or three girls. When I was sixteen, I learned of the middle child syndrome through my school counselor. I went and got a brochure on the subject and left it on my parents dresser. My parents were very concerned after that and we started therapy, my parents and I. Good luck dear, because until your parents see their mistakes regarding this, it will continue.
Yes, there is such a thing. According to Alfred Adler, a Psychoanalytic psychologist, Middle children often exhibit traits that are quirky, such as: 1) trying hard to be accepted, 2) exhibiting fake independence because they want to dislodge the first-born, 3) take lots of responsibilities but then fail to live up to their parent's standards.
yes...my husband is a middle child and I'm a first born...boy do we differ.my sister is a middle child and is much like my husband. (sometimes it's spooky...maybe thats why she doesn't like him...they're too much alike)
yes there is, but it doesn't necessarily affect every "middle" child. Supposedly the 1st child is doted on because it's the 1st...
then here comes a second one which isn't doted over as much as after all ~ now there's two for the parents to take care of...
Then along comes the 3rd and last child which happens to be the "Baby" of the family, and now the attention is on "The Baby"... In my own opinion, I think that the middle child could very well grow to be more independent and imaginative than the 1st and the 3rd. Hey ~ every family parents differently.
Yes butonly if u r the first child of a brother/sister union.
