Cortical blindness?

If people with cortical blindness (blindness caused by damage to the occipital lobe rather than to the eyes) have no visual imagery in their dreams, what do they dream? Do they dream in auditory words or sensory feelings? Or do they just not dream at all?

Answer:
First of all, those who are cortically blind do not necessarily lose the ability to engage in visual imagery. They do of course lose the ability to process new visual stimuli but as Kosslyn and others have pointed out mental imagery is more a function of memory than of active visual processing.

So to answer your question, cortically blind people (at least those who were not born blind) can engage in mental imagery just as well as a sighted person. As a result my guess is they dream much in the same way you and I do.

If mental imagery is something you are interested in you might want to look into the work of Dr. Stephen Kosslyn from Harvard University. He is one of the world's leading experts on mental imagery and the neurological substrates involved.
..The other senses will predominate in the dreams, not visual imagery.
they certainly don't dream about you.
