Why is psychology importnat to Todays teachers?
Answer:
I'm 90% certain that it is necessary--and a good idea. You might want to know which kid looks like he/she is going to bring a weapon/booze/drugs...who may be anorexic, depressed, be suffering with anxiety/panic--or worse. You might also want to know who is about to assault someone--physically, mentally, sexually--who might be a stalker--who is lying--who is cheating, etc. You would want to know if someone is being abused by someone else (in school or at home). Walking time-bombs need careful watching...
A few decades back, this responsibility would have been on the parents--but since nearly all parents are working full-time--the babysitter (school) has taken over in our personal lives.
phychology is important to study today especially because we need to further understand the concept of udnerstanding one's mind. many people change there ways of thinking by getting depressed & frustrated and we need to learn what causes that and how to cure it.
- also the teacher may need to help the students during hard and confusing times and may be the only one to turn to.
..The NUMBER ONE reason teachers need to learn psychology and neuroscience is because LEARNING is a psychological event i IT HAPPENS IN THE BRAIN.
The brain is the LEARNING INSTRUMENT. When you think about it, it's pretty bizarre to become a professional teacher, whose job it is to help young people LEARN, and they don't know the first thing about how the brain learns. This kind of ignorance sets them up for all kinds of errors and mistakes in the classroom.
This is a pet peeve of mine, in case you couldn't tell.
