I'm having trouble in my garden. Bear with me, I think it's psychological?
Then there are the gophers (really ground squirrels) that have riddled the garden with their burrows, coming up in the turnips, lettuce, cabbage etc. They don't like the cover crop yet either. They have decimated a short row of lettuce, but left the rest of the garden alone. Now even a child knows that lettuce has no where near the nutritional value of the rest of the garden. I think their instincts must be off and don't know what's good for them. My question is this.
Answer:
Okay, maybe you can rig up a sound system that plays a soothing voice (your voice) that whispers to the deer. I mean, it worked on a horse, why not whisper, "no,no, no" to them each night. :) Just a thought.
Oh, and we all (those of us who have raised kids) have a deep seated psychological needs, if for no other reason, than we have we have RAISED KIDS... and amazingly made it through the process! I think it is normal. I wouldn't worry about it.
ha ha ha!! Ahhhhhh the joys of gardening huh? I have very similar problems as i am in maine and we have similar wildlife (although the current bane of my existance is a fisher).
All joking aside, have someone urinate around your garden---please, im very serious--deer HATE the smell of human urine and will avoid it. also i think cayenne pepper sprinkled around will keep the ground critters away. Any tips for getting rid of my fisher?
BTW: i dont think you have psychological issues---its fun to go to war over salad fixings! LOL
Garden is not your`s.
It belongs to deer's family.
They are thinking about stopping you by trespassing
How about grow some extra vegitables outskirt of your cover crop...? (Just let them grow as if they are wild plants, and deers + gophers can eat it without going near your garden...?)
Just a thought, you know much more about gardening than me. Also, like children, the animals prefer good tasting food to nutrition :-)
