<<The "workplace psychopath" (or sociopath), for that matter, succeeds yes, because they know how to effectively manipulate others (lying is a prime example of this), and they have little to no empathy for others to get in the way- they are more "ruthless", driven, aggressive, controlling...they've been practicing how to mask these things with innocent-looking covers, for years...probably since they were very young! They don't live by the same code of ethics as the rest of us do, they don't have a conscience to hinder their decision-making..they see what they want- they go after it, and are usually successful in doing so. They don't care about the cost to others. It matters not. As long as they get what they are after! Psychopaths/sociopaths who are also born highly intelligent are definitely a dangerous force to be reckoned with. They have the ability to pull of all kinds of self-profitting scams (at the expense of others)...or worse.

..Problem bosses, problem coworkers...seriously disturbed people can get jobs, too, causing coworkers endless grief. From your account, it sounds like you've built up quite a bit of anger over this. As always, your choices are to work out a reasonable way of relating to this person, or leave the job to find a much better situation. Most people leave.
