While there is no official declaration by the scientific community as to why people dream, one main theory proposes that dreams are caused by random neural impulses triggered in the brain during REM sleep. A person's brain then tries to interpret these signals, thus resulting in a dream.
Dreaming is a way to rid your unconscious mind of clutter.
Dreams are often caused by something going on, in someone life. For me stress causes dreams.
