Phobia of the dark?

I have this irrational fear of the dark. Even in my own house, I can't sleep without a light on in my room and before i can walk through any room i have to switch on every light in the room. I always feel like there is just something in the dark watching me or waiting to get me. It's probably one of the reasons i have insomnia. I know it's completely crazy but i've been this way ever since i was little and my grandmother would threaten that the boogie man would get me if i didn't go to sleep. Haha please don't be mean but am i the only one who is like this?

Answer:
no ur not the only one with this issue, in psycology its considered a learned behavior...which comes from something that was repetitive in your childhood as you said from what yuor gramma said. The main way to get out of feeling that way is to try to unlearn the behavior, perhaps by having your gramma or someone tell you over and over that theres nothing there in the dark while your in it...if they sit with you or something it might not be as bad or if you start like in a closet with the door only part way shut and just shut it little by little or things like that...theres a lot of info on this subject that you can look into and for your sake i hope you do because god forbid if we ever run out of electricity or something, lol anyways gl!
heck no!
im the same way.. maybe not AS bad, but i always have to turn on a light when i go into a room... it jUst makes me feel safer! YOU'RE DEFINITELY NOT THE ONLY ONE! but just remember.. there ISNT anything watching you! i mean think about it... what could be? a robber? that doesnt make sense.. you woulda heard it. just think logically... THINK POSITIVE! haha
same with me the light always help me get 2 sleep anyway plus if i enter a room if i dont turn on a light especially at night then im scared!
People fear the unknown. In the dark you can't see as far. So it is reasonable for someone to be afraid of the dark.

My dad is 55 years old and he STILL needs a nightlight! :o)
