The inventor of the vehicle would be partially responsible for millions of deaths in its history.

If you knew your invention could make life a great deal more convenient but could also cause death to occur even in the event of an accident, would you still invent it.

Answer:
I suspect the person that discovered how to use fire was disliked by tribal members the 1st time a child was killed by fire & the same may have happened to the person that came up with the wheel, only to have someone killed by it. One can only wonder if more people were saved due to faster transportation to medical care due the auto.
Regardless of the invention, it will be misused by someone.
An old saying among engineers is "Nothing can be made fool proof, because fools are too ingenius!"

I think history has shown that convenience outweighs danger as far as inventions are concerned. Money plays a huge part too. It is hard to make a decision on a hypothetical invention, especially if the death it incurs is caused accidentally because these accidents may not be apparent or obvious until the invention is in use. If resulting deaths were obvious I would like to think I would not proceed with the invention but I imagine that money could out rule danger for many people.

The vehicles didn't kill the people, the irresponsible drivers did.
