Can people change for the better?

Can a person change himself for the better or the worse? Is there many paths to a fate or are we merely pawns in a sinister universal twist? And most importantly when does that moment when a person changes?

Answer:
William Ernest Henley. 1849–1903

Invictus

OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
A person can change for the better only if they want to and are willing to make sufficient effort to change.

People don't really 'change themselves'. They only show themselves Willing to change, and it means 'letting' one's self... -listen, instead of blathering on and on . Might we not consider the possibility that our perspective on their morals is the error in this situation? People can change, yes. But we make the mistake all the time of forcing a change on someone when it is us who should be the one to change.
