Ever wake up but couldn't move?

You see what's in front of you but can't talk or move.

Answer:
It's called sleep paralysis.

When you're dreaming, your body will normally go into a temporary paralysis. This helps keep you from getting up and running around or doing whatever it is you're dreaming about.

For some people, the paralysis either kicks in before they fall asleep or doesn't wear off right away when they wake up. So your brain is (mostly) awake, but your body is not. This isn't dangerous, and happens to most people a few times in their lives. If it happens to you a lot, it may be because you have too much stress or something (like prescription medication) is interfering with your natural sleep patterns.

In some cases people suffering from sleep paralysis will experience frightening hallucianations or strange sensations like the feeling that someone is watching them. This is called hypnogogia, and occurs because the brain has not fully come out of its dream state.
yeah, i thought it was a dream, but i was fine after like three seconds.
this happened to me once and it was absolutely frightening. i believe the phenomenon is called Sleep Paralysis. when it happened to me, it was right after i had a major surgery and was on many meds. i know i didn't hallucinate it, however. but i wouldn't be surprised if the meds provoked it since i haven't experienced it since that time. but i distinctly remember walking up, opening my eyes and looking around and being unable to move any body parts or make any noises despite how hard i tried -- and i tried! i was petrified, stayed awake for maybe another minute or two and then willed myself back to sleep hoping it was a bad dream.

i doubt it's harmful to your health unless it happens with great frequency and causes anxiety. it's something to experience, that's for sure, and if it ever happens to me again, maybe i can get past my fear and try to parlay it into some cool lucid dreaming. :-)
yeah it was really creepy..actually its happened 3 or 4 times...hmmm...
Yes, it happens to me and can be very frightening!
