What can I do to keep myself from eating unnecessarily?

Hon, if you must eat something, make that something healthy. Keep cut up celery sticks and carrot sticks in the ice box like I do, I am down to 180 from 330, so I know what I am talking about. I fill up on the veggies so when dinner time comes I only nibble on fattening things, and I then have a salad before my dinner. Dessert is fruit and a yogurt dip or fruit ices. I feel full and refreshed at the same time.
Eat healthy foods that will not harm you.
For example, plain air popped popcorn...no butter, no salt. It is high in fiber and low in calories.
Eat apples. The fiber is wonderful.
Eat cucumbers.you will be glad you did!
Just switch to some healthy foods...learn to enjoy eating healthful foods.
I am most tempted to snack too much in the evenings while i am watching tv, on the computer, etc. So, I try to avoid it by exercising (when I feel fit, i dont want to overeat) I also wear sexy loungewear around the house at night so I wont be in the mood to eat a half pint of ice cream while feeling sexy, another thing i do is retire to my bedroom for the night to read, work on paperwork from work, or work on computer from my bed so I am not so close to the kitchen where I will be tempted to run during commercials. Lastly, if I must eat/snack after about 7 pm, I snack on food like celery, carrot sticks, grapes and/or air popped popcorn. It takes a lot of discipline but you can do it, good luck! :)
I don't know if this would work for you, but I started writing everything down that I eat. I didn't think it would work for me at first, but now I notice myself checking what I've been eating and keeping a concious log of it.

you can keep focused on your food and drown out the storm in your mind only then will you achieve absolute focus. there is something you are focused on more so you're brain is doing that instead of eating. if you find that thing and not focus on that and rather eat you will be fine
Research where the food actually came from...you will be so grossed out you won't want to eat it! Watch PETA's Meet your Meat...you'll second guess fast food and anything with meat or dairy in it!
Yeah, I'm the same way. When I am bored I eat. I mean, it keeps me occupied. I am quite skinny but am started to get a lil more stomach and don't want to be fat. So, I usually chew gum instead of eating when I'm bored and I also drink more water. Writing down everything you eat also helps. Cause one eats so much it makes one feel guilty and not eat so much. Whenever you bored and depressed, pls mingle with your friends, sharing with them. You will forget about eating unnecessarily..
Pick a genre of food and convince yourself that you're going to get sick from eating it. Or simply focus on the negative aspects of that food genre. It works for me. I have managed to stop eating most anything made from flour...this includes bread, cookies, cake, stringy pasta...etc as well as I don't eat any meats except fish, chicken and turkey. If only I could do the same with sodas.liquids in general...I'll drink just about anything...and liquids cost more than food too =(.
