If a robot could think and experience emotions, would it be alright to hurt/abuse it?

I say no, because robots are just levers, wires, and circuitry. They aren't humans, so they shouldn't get the same rights/priveleges/treatment of humans. They are supposed to do what you tell them to, and if they "rebel" then you can send it to the junkyard.

it seems to me that your question/assumption conflicts with it self.

Are you going with a mechanical think that can not feel or one that can? If it can feel, it is bad to hurt it.

COMPARE: do you have a car? I bet you don't deliberately try to break it. You probably value it and try to take care of it so it won't break down. should you treat a robot with feelings worse than your car?
Thinking for itself and experiencing emotions would mean that it is a sentient being. That said, it probably shouldn't be ok to abuse it. It will know it is being abused and will have emotions as such.
Yeah, go ahead and do that and see how fast we all get thrown into the Matrix, Coppertop!
