Bad thoughts at night?

During the day I never think of anything bad. All my thoughts are good and clean. But once I lay into bed (and turn off the T.V) I suddenly just start thinking of all these bad thoughts, almost all my fears start to taunt me. I just start thinking about everything that scares me. Is there a way to stop this. It's nothing extreme, it's just annoying and makes it harder to get to sleep so please don't sugest professional help. I'm 15 years old if that helps too.

Answer:
It's normal to have thoughts like that at any time of day, but maybe you're mind is so heavily occupied during those hours that those thoughts don't come to the surface.

It is common for people to have exactly what you describe happen to them during meditation. The general approach is to just disregard those thoughts as unimportant and go back to focusing on the mantra sound, which helps to quiet the mind.

Thoughts are just impulses in your mind that filter up through your memories, past experiences and anticipations of the future, to eventually become fully formed thoughts.

About the only suggestion I can offer when you have these thoughts is to realize that you had them the night, week, month, etc. before and you survived another day, week, month, since then. They're just thoughts - thoughts cannot hurt you unless you act upon them in an irrational manner. It's okay to think of stabbing the neighbor's dog, just don't think about actually DOING it! That's the mark of a psychotic - when there's no internal mechanism to prevent them from acting on their thoughts.
same here...same age, same phenomenon, but its been going on forever. try only going to bed right before you fall asleep, that way you won't have to think about the bad stuff
Try reading a happy book before you fall asleep. Get your mind off of all the bad things until you cannot keep your eye lids open anymore.

If that doesnt work, try listening to music as you fall asleep. Pay attention to the lyrics, sing along to yourself, again it will occupy your mind and keep it off of all the bad things.
i'm 14 and that happens everyday for me. i end up sleeping around 4am-5am cause i get so freaked out. i read in some book that it'll get easier for you to sleep when the lights are out and you relax all your muscles. i know, it's so annoying. i think this is actually common for teens our age. just try to relax and try really hard to think about other things. like what's happening in your life and stuff. expect the scary things that come into your mind. i hope you feel better. reading a book helps so much. sorry i wasn't any help cause i'm actually going through the same thing. goodluck and remember, you're not the only one going through it=]
I swear I have the exact same problem but like a billion times worse.
Well, I am a lot older, but have had the same problem since I was your age. I try to think of a book or TV show or just a made up story I tell my self. If it is a book or a show, I make myself a character and see how things would have been different. For instance when I was younger I loved the show M.A.S.H. So I made myself (unheard of in that time) a female army doctor and thought about what would happen with those characters...kind of made my own movie. It would distract me enough that I would fall asleep. Thirty some odd years later, it still works, just different stories.
