What is the goal of therapy for you (doctor or patient)?
Jacques Lacan said that the goal of therapy is to lead the analysand to a full acknowledgment of his or her inability to satisfy the most basic desires.
Jung said "The principal aim of psychotherapy is not to transport the patient to an impossible state of happiness, but to help him acquire steadfastness and philosophic patience in the face of suffering. Life demands for its completion and fulfillment a balance between joy and sorrow".
What do you think is the goal or therapy?
Why woul you have it? (or recommend it to someone?)
Answer:
The therapist is satisfied of been able to help, and the patien also, for ending his problem
GLORIA
Both of those purposes sound good to me. Teach a man to fish vs give him a fish.
I have no need for therapy. Honestly, I think people freak out too easily. I'm not sure if my mind is strong or theirs is weak, but there is definitely a difference.
I'd recommend to someone who has flipped out off the deep so they can turn their life around.
As long as it helps people, therapy is good. Mental stability is far too neglected nowadays.
the goal of therapy is to teach people to manage life stresses on their own. To me people who say they don't need therapy are people who have never faced high (abnormal) stress situations (eg the stress i face in my daily life is different from the stress that a soldier in a battle field feels) or people who are very open and can get therapy from people around them ie talking to a friend. I personally believe everyone needs some form of therapy, not necessarily professional.
