Is lying to oneself ever a wise thing to do?
I'm talking more about telling lies to yourself about your own actions or thoughts.

Sometimes blocking out painful things is the same as lying to yourself,I know I do it,live it,breathe it.
Sometimes we lie to ourselves as a coping mechanism,sometimes that may be appropriate,other times its just a means of not looking at all the b.s. we have created,and not dealing with it through means of a proper avenue.

no. it leads to being disillusioned about simple things. being a very confused person.
Self deception is a tool we all use, to better adjust to an environment that we are not completely comfortable with. When a complete stranger tried to help me zip up my fly in the air port, I declined his assistance and used some very artistic cursing to distance myself from the person. I later justified my actions by some internalized lies.
i have 2 names for this. denial which stands for don't even notice i am lying. i also call it self-deception. Jim morrison once said that "a quality of ignorance, self-deception may be neccessary to the poet's survival." if you aren't a poet than it serves no purpose but getting you in trouble. plus if you can't be honest with yourself how can you be honest with anyone else. i personally find it hardest to believe myself about stuff because of my track record. surround yourself with people who care about you and have your best interest in mind. they'll catch you when you fall
not really that just means you cant handle ones thoughts or actions there for you are weak minded
I suppose it'd be helpful if you were a really bad, evil person, because then you could feel good about yourself.
It is the worst thing you can do .For you would probably get mixed up and start believing your lies instead of truth. Then be stuck in your world of lies.
