Do you sometimes have a strange urge to do something whacko in the middle of nowhere?
Answer:
Yes, this year I was planning on pretending to faint in the middle of class. I was so close to doing it twice, I just couldnt get myself to just slump out of my desk, something was holding me back, although I was just on the verge. I went over and over it in my mind. Later in the year I realized how whacky that thought was, and what could have happened. Also once in a while I get an urge to scream in the middle of class, since I am a very quiet student. (Although I have been known to be a screamer with my friends a couple years back). I also imagine once in a while me randomly kissing someone just for the hell of it, hah.
By the way I got this book called Instant Analysis-"how you can understand and change the 100 most common, puzzling, annoying, self-defeating behaviors and habits" and one of the questions was: "Why do I think about acting totally inappropriately in public?" Here I'll show you some of what it said:
"Many people have thoughts like these, and they are for the most part fairly harmless. We imagine these scenarios as a mental release. Sometimes the pressure of our lives and the confining social and cultural norms can be restraining. Thoughts of going over the edge and acting throughly inappropriately provide a mental outlet
Sometimes these thoughts are indicative of something more. Put simply, you do not trust yourself. You question your judgement and have an underlying fear of doing the very thing that you think about doing. This lack of self-trust manifests into a fear that you may lose control of your rational thought processes and act totally inappropriately. You wonder what would happen if you fell down a flight of stairs or jumped out of a two-story window in the event that you "forgot" that it wouldn't be such a good idea.
Part of the creation of these scenarios is planning how you should react after you've done the unthinkable. You run through different options that would offer you the least amount of embarrassment and where you would suffer the least consequences should you lose control of your sences and good judgement."
The chapter in this book suggests to do a trust-building exercise with a friend such as being blindfolded and led around by a partner or engage in a sport with a measure of healthy competition with friends. Physical activity is a good outlet for releasing unsociable urges. Release your aggresion in different games.
Anyway hah who would have known this was a common urge in people?
