What are Dreams.......

Why do we have them? Do they mean anything? Can they be glimpses into our futer?

I wont go into too much detail but my girlfriend had a really wierd dreem over the weekend & when she spoke to her sister today & told her about she told her she had more or less the exact same dream on the same night!? with only minor details a little different & they can both remember them very well!? its really spooked us all out, what do you think? All answers welcome, Thanks.

Answer:
In order for humans to feel rested they must enter REM sleep. During REM sleep all humans dream whether they remember dreaming or not, therefore to feel rested we must dream.

Dreaming is our bodies way of sorting through all the information and thoughts we had that day. They reveal alot of our subconscious feelings and desires. Dreaming is also thought to give us an outlet to escape from reality (such as limitations we experience when we are awake)

as for 2 people having the same dream, its likely that both of them shared the same experience during the day and they had the same thoughts about that experience. considering they are sisters and grew up in the same enviroment they probably think alike.

hope this helped! =)
they are just your brain getting rid of all the rubbish it's collected.
Yes they have meening. mostly dreams come about because our minds is wondering around inside trying to find answers, making up stories that fit into some frame of mind reference.

there are prophetic dreams and these sometimes are warning dreams only remembered at the time just before the life event.
Dreams are a way of the mind sorting out the days information as your mind starts to shut down to low power mode you dream. They mean bugger all and are usually random thoughts that have no meaning. I did dream that the wedding was of with my friend and when I woke up I was glad to see everyone was getting ready which was freaky.
I think it is our sub conscience and things which have happened and remained in our minds, they all seem to clash together and come out in a weird dream.
I think dreams are...a lot of things. Some are glimpses of the future which, I think, are based on or generated by our own thoughts and premonitions.

I also think different personalities have different types of dreams. Some twins, I've heard, share a lot of thoughts. Some can even tell if something is happening to the other at the exact time even though miles apart.

I think there must be a physiological reason for why we dream. I wonder how that study is progressing!

Finally, some friends of mine think that it has to do with past lives...makes sense to me because sometimes I dream of places I've never seen or been to. It's almost as if I'm living a different life.
Isn't it a fact that we only use a small portion of our brain in an entire lifetime ? What's the rest of it there for...to take up space ? I don't think so. Sometimes dreams are just a big, mixed-up mess. Other times, they make sense. We don't know enough about our brains. Only from scientific aspects. But, perhaps it connects us to the "beyond". (my sister and I had the same dream about getting a "visit" from our Dad, within a week after he died) ...
My answer to a similar question from another asker.

"Dreams are one of the mediums through which our subconscious (also maybe the collective unconscious) communicates to us.

There is a great deal of stuff going on inside each of us. A whole universe unto itself. But we are only consciously aware of a small part of it. Dreams are messages from that world."

The fact that two sisters had a similar dream isn't so unusual. The fact that they had it on the same night does seem to indicates this one has a special meaning.

Look below the surface appearance of the dream for the meaning of it underneath.
