Chicano Therapy?

Therapy in the Chicana and Chicano community is needed as the community continues to grow and expand in the U.S. What are three essential focuses, 1. Language, 2. Culture. 3. Family Values. The essential function of therapy lies in the interaction and understanding of the client. Are Chicanas and Chicanos difficult to work with or not?

Answer:
I don't think that it is so much that they are difficult to work with as much as it is that people either 1) don't want to work with them because they don't understand the culture or 2) want to work with them but are unsuccessful because they don't have an understanding of the culture. There is such a small group that has a good understanding of any group of color that it makes it difficult for the group to receive quality service that is culturally sensitive. The best things to do are to encourage young members of the Chicana and Chicano community to gain the credentials to do therapy themselves *and* to encourage colleges and universities offering these programs to include more classes and training opportunities for people to work with people of color.
They are not!
