Looking for good advice on "life after college"?
Hi. I just graduated from college, and I'm entering a totally new phase in my life. I am going to search for my first job, start being more mature, independent, take care of myself. All this time I had depended on my family.
I am freaked out by this. I am scared of the future. I don't know if this is normal...
but I would like to know if any of you know any good website, book, magazine, etc... with good advice on how to deal with this. (or maybe your own advice)
... and what actions I should be taking.
I really appreciate your help. Thank You.
Answer:
Make sure you start with a budget and live by it. Dont get into dept with credit cards and always pay rent before anything else.
Good Luck!!!!
Great question. You are thinking ahead. Please check the link I found below.
First of all congratulations on graduation. Second, good luck to you. Now, some specific bits of advice about job searching.
1) There's no such thing as making too many applications
2) You have to spend time every day on this.
3) The only job you are certainly not qualified for is the one you say you are not qualified for
4) Don't look for the ideal job, look for a job
5) Employers ask for the theoretically perfect candidate who is young, with experience, has 3 Ph.D.s and is not overqualified. But they are not going to get that person. So just because you don't meet the stated qualifications don't assume you can't get the job.
6) Spell everything correctly in your application documents. This is a really, really, big deal. People of my acquaintance start off by discarding all applications with spelling mistakes and go on from there.
