How can I become a good conversationalist?
but listening isn't all of the conversation, my question is how do i know what to say when it is my turn to talk? and i dont want to just repeat what they said, i want to say something.

You need to be well informed. The more you know, the more you have to talk about. That way, when someone stops talking, you can say - "That's interesting. You know it kind of reminds me of..."
Get yourself a subscription to Newsweek or Time, and read it cover to cover every week. You'll find some parts more interesting than others, and you can follow up on those subjects if you like.
You are a better conversationalist than you know, you are just getting nervous. Try to tell yourself positive self talk like, Im as interesting as anyone else or maybe im not the best conversationalist ever, but this guy or girl certainly has their shortcomings too. Sometimes I try to think of all the ways the other person may be intimidated by me. That helps to relax you and put you in a confident frame of mind. This will make your conversation more natural and keep your nervous tension down (which is what stifles you out).
