Do bullimics overdose on laxatives, or just take the normal dosage when they don't need it?
?I'm not asking for advice or anything, I'm just curious.
Answer:
It depends on the severity of the illness. Early on, bulimics may only take normal doses of laxatives (whether they need them or not). However, as the disease progresses, two things happen: (1.) the person increasingly loses her grasp on normality, and believes she must take more and more laxatives (as well as purging more than "necessary," and going to other extremes of behavior); (2.) because eating disorders wreak havoc on the body and bulimia nervosa in particular is damaging to the digestive system, the person may actually NEED more laxatives in order to relieve the constipation that results from the cycle of starvation, bingeing and purging. Either way, many bulimics do end up overdosing on laxatives, which can result in death.
bulimic ppl eat normal food, laxatives and all, but they just throw it all up at the end.
anorexic ppl might take overdosages on laxatives, generally they starve themselves tho...
I don't think people who over use laxatives would be classified as a bulimic. Bulimia is classified as binging (overeating) and purging (puking it up).
Bulimics throw up anorexics don't eat enough. Laxatives could be used by either. I think that generally, bulimia is defined as constant gorging/ then purging and anorexic as an aversion to eating food in the first place and maybe even a l little food making them sick. Overdosing on laxatives and using the normal dosage when they don't need it would soon lead to needing more and depending on it for the purge. I think that anorexia and bulimia can and do often overlap.
