Which sides of the brain handle what functions?

Just having a discussion at work and wondering which side is logic, and those things and which side handles only motor skills and such.

Answer:
That's not quite how things are split up, as it were.

The left side controls the right side of the body; the right controls the left. Both are involved in motor skills.

Language and symbols are primarily processed on the left side.
Motor skills are not handled by one side of the brain--they are controlled by the cerebellum at the base of the brain. Logic, language, and math are controlled by the left hemisphere, while the right hemisphere controls facial recognition. Just realize that most cognitive functioning occurs with all of the brain in conjunction, not with just one side doing all the work.
Take note the following findings can be applied to majority but not all people. Also take note of the brain's flexibility to change the functions of certain areas to compensate for a deficit or impairment.

In general, motor skills are similarly controlled by both hemispheres. Also, the logic/reasoning centers are usually governed by both areas of the cerebral cortex.

Language areas (Broca's area and Wernicke's area) are usually in the left hemisphere. The opposite hemisphere also has similar areas although they have been found to process emotional content in language, as well as intonation and emphasis. For people born deaf, most of them have dominant language areas in the right hemisphere.

During foetal development period, overproduction of testosterone in male foetuses will disrupt the growth of the left hemisphere, often resulting in a smaller left hemisphere size compared to the right hemisphere.

As for the structure called Amygdala, which is known for processing emotion, subconscious fear and danger detection; some studies have also found differences in functions of left and right amygdala. The findings are relatively recent and will take further research to confirm this.

also, found this in wikipedia:

Left hemisphere:
linear algorithmic processing, concrete-oriented, mathematics: perception of counting/measurement, present and past, language: grammar/words, pattern perception

Right hemisphere:
holistical algorithmic processing, abstract-oriented, mathematics: perception of shapes/motions, present and future, language: intonation/emphasis, spatial perception
