Should I change my name and start a new life?

I'm moving cities and starting a new life... I want to form a new conscious identity. Is changing my name a good idea?

Answer:
if thats what you want..sure..
no
no changing your name may take years till you are actually aloud it permanently
If i were you..i wouldnt. youll just get yourself confused
Yeah go for it.
you can still have a completely fresh start without changing your name, unless its a redicilous name, whats the point?
Depends on what your name is - and why do you want to change it? You don't have to change your name to change your life - it wont change who you really are. I think you should keep it the same - good luck though in the new city
Yes, but if you do, it means that you are throwing away your old life.
Good luck with your new life!! ♥
No.

Besides, you cant just wake up one morning and say, "hey, I want to change my name".

It is expensive, you have to appear before a judge with a VERY good reason, and it is up to him to approve or deny your request. And without an extremely good reason (i.e. your life is in danger) he wont approve it.

Not to mention the endless amount of paperwork and headaches.
Why would you change your name? It's no big deal if your moving to another city where no one knows you. If you so choose, you can invent a new nick name for yourself without going through all the trouble and legal crap to change your name. That might make you feel better. Great question, by the way. Godloveya.
Well, it really can be a good thing if you are prepared for it. By that, I don't mean the process of getting a new name. I mean the idea of becoming someone different. Did something really really bad happen and you are escaping-or is your new you a new gender or a lot smarter and logical and getting away from ignorant people? It can be wonderful as long as you are not doing it as "escapism". Our pasts never leave us-we just have to find ways of accepting them and knowing how to deal with them. The best thing is to not jump the gun--talk to a therapist who has lots of experience that way you can learn about it, it's consequences, and the therapist can evaluate you at the same time. I know that you will make the right decision--because you are the one who will be living with it.
No and this is why..often people make a mess of things where they are at and so they move not realizing that when they get to that point the same mess will exist ..the mess they are trying to escape is inside fix that first
Changing your name can be expensive and a real pain in the ***. There are probably so many things in your name that you've forgotten about that would need to change as well.

Moving to a new city and changing your life is adventurous and couragous. And it's your actions that form a new conscious identity, not your name.

Why don't you compromise and come up with a nickname you like and just tell people you meet (please call me "-----"). New people will just figure you've had that nickname forever, and it will make you feel like a new person.
Just use your middle name. You can use your full name for all your legal documents, but people can get to know you by your middle name. I did it over 15 years ago. Very easy. Your family may still want to call you by your old name, but so what.
I like the middle name idea, or maybe pick a nickname or something. Changing your name is a hassle. I just changed my last name due to marriage and I didn't have to do all the judge stuff but I still had to go everywhere on earth with my marriage certificate changing my name. So there's no way I'd pay for it and go see a judge. Yuck.
It sounds like a great idea. are you trying to hide from someone? I would consider changing my name but only to fake out the creditors. (smile)
