Being an emotional person?
Hi, I have always been a very emotional person throughout my life. I wouldn't change because I like being that way, although sometimes it can make life a little difficult, i.e the emotions take over. Someone once said to me, you can channel your emotions in a positive way. Can anyone explain this concept to me further?

Yes, I agree that being emotional is a good thing when channeled it in positive way. We can categorize emotion into two categories which are positive and negative emotion. The negative emotions are anger, sorrow, jealousy, depressed and etc. and positive emotions are joy, love, envy, excitement. Those who are emotional tends to be good in expressing his/her emotion and sometimes very fast be overwhelmed by emotion before seeing thing realistically. Being emotional is a good thing if tapped into positive way of perceiving life situation. It can make you more joyful, more loving, more humorous, more lively than others so you can make yourself happier than normal people and can impact the environment with positive moods. Even if you are sad, you tend to cry easily and then discharge your negative emotion faster than others. In your case, you have to learn to see the opportunity in problematic situations. You can find humor as a solution. You can be loving and compassionate in someone who are lost instead of judgmental. You can be more envious for those who are better than you and then can push yourself ahead very fast.
It depends what kind of emotional you're talking about. Do you get filled with rage, obsession, jealousy, love, hatred, lust, depression, etc...

I just have one example my speech instructor explained to us once about giving speeches. He compared being nervous with being excited. In both emotions, you have anxiety. When you're nervous and want to change that, all you do is think about the situation in a positive way. Act like you want to do whatever is making you nervous. You'd become more excited and less nervous, thus making it a more positive experience.
I guess having a positive attitude can help you deal with your emotions if they ever get out of hand.
You can channel your emotion into caring, loving, and compassionate ways. Emotion will provide you with energy to achieve these ways and become a greater individual.
Let not the emotions take control over your thinking process. Try and think positive when you get to a state like this. Its easier said than done so you need to practice a lot...I am still working on it and still not gotten over it. But belief in yourself is one thing that will make it happen for sure. Go for it.
My wife is also a very emotional person and she has learned to use it positively. Channel your emotions towards the positive and do something with that energy to help others, be creative and to express yourself. As an emotional person you are probably very compassionate and understanding which helps you to relate to others well and relate to what they are feeling or going through. That is using your emotions in a positive way.
