my grandfather once told me to always remember," a wet bird flies at night"... i was very young when i was told this and i have never figured it out... what does it mean?

Answer:
Actually, the saying is: A wet bird never flies at night. A wet bird flying in the cool night air would freeze to death. Either he missed a word, or he didnt. If he didnt, that would mean he wanted to die.I think that your grandfather was telling you that he commited suicide either on purpose or on accident.
Good luck finding out! Zeteo-
that you will only have sex at night.
It means that he told you something to insure that you would never forget him!!

How sweet!
Well that is a very intresting question!! I might not know what it means but u should try analyzing it very carefully now if you are very intrested in finding out what is the significance of this sentence then maybe u should ask a proffesional!
I haven't the foggiest, but just guessing, I'd say that a wet bird would have difficulty flying as the water could weigh down its wings, although I believe the feathers are waterproof. So acting on that theory of weighing the wings down, the bird couldn't fly very well, so it would fly at night when it can't be seen. But what your grandfather was saying, is that if you have something to be ashamed of, you would hide it under the cover of darkness. I dunno -- this is just a guess and not written in stone.
not a clue, i looked and the only thing i saw was the other part "and the turtle dies in July". never heard of it.
I looked up cliches and it said "A wet bird NEVER flies at night" Maybe grandpa left out a very important word. That would certainly make a difference. No? Though I still have no clue what it means.
